What are Consortium/ Third Party administrators

A Consortium/Third-Party Administrator (C/TPA) is an entity that manages all, or part, of an organization's drug and alcohol testing program. C/TPAs serve as intermediaries between employers and various service agents involved in the drug testing process, such as laboratories, collection sites, Medical Review Officers (MROs), and Substance Abuse Professionals (SAPs). Their role is to ensure compliance with regulations, streamline the testing process, maintain confidentiality and integrity of the testing program, and often provide additional services such as policy development, training, and record keeping. C/TPAs are utilized across various industries, especially those regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and other federal and state agencies, to help employers navigate the complexities of maintaining a compliant and effective drug and alcohol testing program.
